There are several drivers that account for the recent astonishing growth in the global market for solar energy. These include increasing energy demand, security and cost of oil supplies as well as concerns over global warming. World-wide production of solar modules more than doubled in 2010 to over 20GW. Following the introduction of Feed in Tariffs (FIT) in April 2010, the market in the UK is also growing strongly. This one day event provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of the art. The event covers all aspects of the technology, including photovoltaic materials, devices, balance of systems, insolation, failure modes and analysis, building integration, concentrators and solar thermal. SOLAR in association with CREST at Loughborough University has put together a team of speakers whose expertise covers the whole range of photovoltaic technologies. Innovation in PV technology

The "Innovation in PV technology Award" has been awarded by SOLAR UK to Taylor Hobson Ltd for their development of the CCI Sunstar. The CCI Sunstar is a Scanning White Light Interferometry system capable of sub-nanometre metrology and a unique ability to measure accurately the thickness of transparent thin films.
